How to cool chickens in summer?

In summer, as the temperature rises, because chickens are now mostly raised in poultry farm chicken cages, and because the chickens have no sweat glands, their ability to regulate body temperature is relatively poor, so they are prone to heat stress, which leads to a decline in chicken production.

  1. All the fans must be turned on in the closed chicken house, all windows should be opened in the open chicken house, and the doors along the long axis of the chicken house can be changed to lead wire mesh doors to promote air flow along the long axis of the chicken house to achieve ventilation. If the temperature is still not enough, add a high-speed fan or fan in the direction facing the long axis of the house.
  2. Provide nutrition. In a high temperature environment, the chicken’s feed intake will drop sharply, which may significantly reduce egg production. Therefore, the concentration of the diet must be adjusted according to the feed intake of the chickens, so that the feed intake of the chickens is small, but they can still consume enough energy every day. In this way, the chicken does not produce too much heat and can maintain a high level of egg production.
  3. Reduce heat radiation. The chicken house should face south to the north, and there should be no other buildings in front of the chicken coop to ensure smooth air flow; plant trees on the west and south sides of the chicken coop, but do not block the south wind with dwarf shrubs. The trees should be tall and have large crowns. The shade is wide. The ground should be planted with turf to reduce dust and reflect heat. The roof is painted with two layers of white paint, and fixed sprinklers are installed on the roof with sufficient pressure to spray cool water from the roof to reduce the temperature of the house by about 5℃.
  4. The chicken body dissipates heat.Spray heat can be used to dissipate heat. When the temperature of the chicken house exceeds 35°C and the chickens are breathing non-stop, spray with water, especially the head of the chicken. Because the head of the chicken is completely exposed, it is easy to dissipate heat when the water evaporates. The head can cool down, and the breathing will soon become smoother, thereby reducing the risk of fever fainting in the chicken.

The above are some of the key points. When using automated chicken cages to raise chickens, farmers can use the above methods to cool the chicken house.
