Factors affecting the amount of drinking water for chickens

The best way is to use chicken battery cages to raise chickens, because it is more convenient and better to raise chickens. So what are the factors that affect the amount of drinking water for chickens?

1. The amount of water in the chicken increases with the increase of its age.

The drinking water of the laying hen will suddenly increase due to its sexual maturity, but once the peak of egg production has passed, the increase of its age will no longer have a direct impact on the amount of drinking water. The higher the egg production rate of the chicken during laying, the greater the amount of water it drinks. It is generally believed that for every 10% increase in the egg production rate of chickens, the amount of water consumed will increase by 12 ml. If the egg production rate is 50%, the water consumption per egg chicken is 170 ml per day. When the egg production rate rises to 80%, the daily water consumption increases to 206 ml.

2. The drinking water of chickens has a decreasing trend when the water temperature rises.

The amount of water in the chicken has an important influence on the composition of the feces. Increasing the amount of drinking water of the chicken will increase the moisture content of the feces, thereby making the litter moist, which is not conducive to the growth of the chicken, and the egg is easily stained. Once the drinking water of the chicken exceeds 2.5 times of its feed intake, the chicken manure will become soft and thin, which will seriously affect the growth and laying of the chicken. In summer, the temperature is high, the amount of water consumed by the chicken increases, and the feces of the caged chicken are often too thin. In the fully enclosed chicken house, drinking water in the morning, in the middle and in the evening is three times, so that the daily drinking time of the flock is three and a half hours, which can significantly improve the softness of the chickens, and the chicken manure is easy to handle. Studies have shown that limiting the amount of drinking water by 28% less than the amount of free drinking does not affect the laying capacity of laying hens; if the reduction in drinking water is less than 50% than the amount of free drinking water, the egg production rate of chickens will be reduced by 15.6%. Reduced by 2 grams, the weight is also significantly reduced.

3, the increase in ambient temperature will increase the water consumption of chickens

When the ambient temperature is below 0 °C, the drinking water of the chicken is reduced; when the ambient temperature is 0 °C ~ 20 °C, the drinking water of the chicken does not change much; when the ambient temperature is higher than 20 °C, the drinking water of the chicken begins to increase; When the ambient temperature is 35 ° C, the amount of water consumed by the chicken is 1.5 times that of normal drinking water (at 20 ° C). But there are signs that sudden changes in the ambient temperature cause the chicken’s drinking water to change. For the time being, the chicken will return to normal after being adapted.

4. Changes in dietary composition have a significant impact on the amount of water consumed by chickens.

In general, elevated levels of fat, protein, salt, and potassium in the diet cause an increase in the amount of water consumed by the chicken; compared to other protein sources, the amount of water consumed by the chickens fed the soybean meal and the meat and bone meal is significantly increased. In addition, some fish powders with high calcium content may cause different increases in the amount of water consumed by the chickens due to the age, type and processing season of the fish used.

5, drinking water contains certain compounds

Drinking water containing certain compounds such as sodium chloride or sodium sulfate increases the amount of water consumed by the chicken, but when the drinking water contains magnesium sulfate or zinc sulfate, the water consumption of the chicken is reduced.

Feeding water to chickens in the chicken house is a problem that needs to be paid attention to. Generally speaking, there are some factors that affect the amount of water consumed by chickens. You can properly feed chickens in chicken farm equipment according to these characteristics.
